Industry Reviews
"...A vast yet subtle film....[Tavernier] creates one of his most memorably ambiguous characters while also giving the film's battle scenes an unusual, visceral style....[Torreton] powerfully embodies the film's central questions..."
New York Times - Janet Maslin (09/10/1997)

"...It brings home the brutal senselessness of war by immersing the viewer in frighteningly vivid battle scenes....It also strikes a haunting tone..."
Chicago Sun-Times - Lloyd Sachs (01/02/1998)
