Album Notes Soul Asylum: Dave Pirner (vocals, guitar); Daniel Murphy (guitar, vocals); Karl Mueller (bass); Sterling Campbell (drums). Additional personnel: Jon Carin (piano, Wurlitzer, harmonium, lap steel guitar, organ, farfisa, mellotron); Steve Harper (percussion); John Woodland, Chris Kimsey, Astrid Pasmino (background vocals). Principally recorded at Criteria Recording Studios, Miami, Florida. Soul Asylum's eagerly awaited follow-up to 1995's LET YOUR DIM LIGHT SHINE is a strong one. One of the premier alternative bands of the 90's, the band is trying to recapture their rock throne of 1992, when they ruled the world with such mega-singles as "Somebody To Shove," "Black Gold" and "Runaway Train." This could be the album to do it. The group has stuck to their winning formula of alternative/pop and come up with some strong material that will thrill their diehard fans. The first single, "I Will Still Be Laughing," made Top Ten at rock radio and is a definite spur to purchase this record. CANDY FROM A STRANGER contains some of the best Soul Asylum tunes ever written. Dave Pirner's voice is in fine form throughout. All in all, this is a well written, accessible release from these talented vets.
