Ten-year-old singing sensation Billy Breen stars in this unusual ice skating musical as Tommy, a boy who gets a job at a Philadelphia ice skating rink in order to help his widowed mom (Dolores Costello) get out from under the thumb of their unbearably stern relatives (Margaret Hamilton and Billy Gilbert). At the rink, Tommy meets up with six-year-old figure skating prodigy Irene Dare, and things start looking pretty bright. There's songs, lots of skating, and a big ice show finale. Other familiar faces in the cast include Charlie Ruggles, Johnathan Hale, and Charles "Dusty" King. Cline made another musical with Breen that same year, HAWAII CALLS. Little Irene Dare went on to star in EVERYTHING'S ON ICE, a sort-of sequel to this film.
Synopsis
Ten-year-old singer Bobby Breen performs alongside six-year-old skating prodigy Irene Dare in this very unique film, featuring music by Victor Young and his orchestra. The plot concerns little boy Breen's efforts to free his poor widowed mother and himself from the nasty clutches of their ultra-religious relatives (Billy Gilbert and Margaret Hamilton). When Bobby takes a job singing at an ice skating rink, he finds a friend in Irene and the two sing and skate their way through a big ice show and into a happy ending.
