Sixth-grader Rosa Serutti's mother and sister are strikers, and Jake Beale is a 13-year-old factory boy from a broken home. After meeting by chance in an alley, the two bond--and when Rosa is sent to a host family in Vermont for the duration of the strike, she takes Jake with her. This well-written, tender story is filled with fascinating history.
