Album Notes Steve Miller Band includes: Steve Miller (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Boz Scaggs, James "Curley" Cooke, Greg Douglass, Kenny Lee Lewis (vocals, guitar); Norton Buffalo (vocals, harmonica); Jim Peterman, Byron Allred (vocals, keyboards); Ben Sidran, Nicky Hopkins, Dicky Thompson (keyboards); Lonnie Turner, Ross Valory, Gerald Johnson (vocals, bass); Tim Davis (vocals, drums); Les Dudek, David Denny, John Massaro (guitar); Bob Mallach (tenor saxophone); Jack King, Doug Clifford, Gary Mallaber (drums). Includes liner notes by Joel Selvin. Although Steve Miller hadn't had a substantial hit in some time by the early 1990s, he still retained a dedicated following that flocked to his many summertime amphitheater shows throughout the decade. So with the music industry in the midst of box set mania, the time seemed perfect to issue a thorough 3-CD overview of Miller's career--1994's STEVE MILLER BAND (BOX SET). While casual Miller fans will probably be overwhelmed by the set (the single disc GREATEST HITS 1974-1978 is a better place to start for the uninitiated), longtime fans will have a feast with rarities, hits, and key album tracks. Highlights include (but are certainly not limited to) "Abracadabra," "Living in the U.S.A.," "Rock 'N' Me," "Jungle Love," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Your Saving Grace," and "The Joker."
Industry Reviews 4 Stars - Excellent. Q (01/01/1995)
3 Stars - Good - ...the first disc is interesting, and the second--slightly ambient, wholly spacey--is excellent.... Q (12/01/1994)
