THE SINGLES gives a quick but thorough overview of Bowie's path over the span of 24 years. Coinciding with the year man first walked on the moon, the melancholic "Space Oddity" was his opening salvo on the charts that would find Bowie bouncing around from being an alien ("Ziggy Stardust") to becoming the Thin White Duke ("The Jean Genie"), flirting with blue-eyed soul ("Young Americans") and stripping down his musical persona during a self-imposed exile in Berlin ("Heroes.") By the time the late '70s were coming to a close, Bowie had written a sequel to "Space Oddity" ("Ashes To Ashes") and dabbled in punk/funk ("Fashion.") In 1983 Bowie teamed with Nile Rodgers on LETS DANCE, a poppy soul/dance package that proved to Bowie's most successful outing ever. Also included in this package is a bonus disc of the surreal duet between Bing Crosby and David Bowie of the Christmas classic "Little Drummer Boy."
