Album Notes A portion of the proceeds from BOSNIA will go to benefit the Bosnian Relief Effort. Grand Funk Railroad: Mark Farner (vocals, guitar); Howard Eddy (vocals, keyboards); Don Brewer (vocals, drums); Mel Schacher (bass). Additional personnel: Paul Shaffer (conductor); Peter Frampton (guitar); Alto Reed (saxophone); Uptown Horns. Recorded live at The Palace, Auburn Hills, Michigan. Includes liner notes by Gary Graff. Homer Simpson is a fan and so were thousands of others who helped them become the second band to sell out Shea Stadium (the Beatles were first). Like their '70s peers Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and Kiss, Mel (Schacher) Don (Brewer) and Mark (Farner) have regrouped for the '90s. Recorded during a recent mini-tour in which the proceeds were donated to the Bosnian Relief Effort, BOSNIA is a 2-CD set full of monstrous riffs, a thunderous bottom and an orchestra conducted by Paul Shaffer to keep things interesting. Along with their hits ("We're An American Band," "The Loco-Motion"), Grand Funk's deeper catalog ("Footstompin' Music," "Inside Looking Out") gets a workout, highlighted by Peter Frampton's guest spot on "Time Machine." Funk and Frampton's collaboration shows how the Chicago blues of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf were appropriated for a new, heavier, sound. Juxtaposing this brute force is the orchestra that shines on "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home," the epic that is Grand Funk's "Stairway To Heaven."
