Synopsis Football hero Pat Tillman became a bigger hero to America when, after 9/11, he enlisted in the army, sacrificing his career for the higher values he held dear. Tillman was sent to Afghanistan, where, in 2004, something went horribly wrong: he was killed by "friendly fire," the term used when, in the fog of battle, a soldier is inadvertently killed by his own comrades. Tillman's mother, Mary, conveys the deep loss she and her family suffered, as they struggled to get to the bottom of the story in the face of inconclusive and ever-changing versions put forth by the army. She shares many stories of her son, as well as the emotions of loss, pain, and anger. Mary Tillman underscores the great sacrifices of military men and women, and their families, who put America first--and deserve nothing but the best.

Industry Reviews "Moving, powerful and overwhelmingly distressing." (02/15/2008)
"Much of the story has been revealed in newspapers and Congressional testimony. Yet BOOTS ON THE GROUND BY DUSK offers something other accounts do not: the heartache of searching for answers about a son's death....It overflows with love and moral outrage." (07/20/2008)
