Movie Description Though she finally found breakthrough success with her 1989 Grammy winner NICK OF TIME, singer-guitarist Bonnie Raitt emerged from the early-1970s folk-blues scene with a soulful sound that mixed those genres with her own brand of rootsy country-rock. This program finds a pre-NICK OF TIME Raitt performing at the 1977 Montreux Jazz Festival in support of that year's SWEET FORGIVENESS album, which netted the singer her first hit single with a cover of Del Shannon's "Runaway." Raitt's smolderingly bluesy performance highlights that song and a selection of tunes from her first six albums--including "Under the Falling Sky," "Women Be Wise," "Sugar Mama," and "Love Me Like a Man"--for a revealing glimpse of a consummate artist whose star was still on the rise.
