Album Notes U-Ziq: Mike Paradinas. Establishing a pattern of incredible prolificacy, Mike Paradinas followed TANGO N' VECTIF, Mu-Ziq's 1993 debut, with this remarkable double-album. He is flying solo here and reveling in ever more eloquent and ambitious electronic constructions. The basic mold of the earlier record still applies-from the quirky, hybridized rhythms to the intoxicatingly beautiful melodies. But everything about BLUFF LIMBO also reveals an artist growing in maturity and confidence by bounds. BLUFF LIMBO is cogent and cohesive, offering some of Pardinas' most accessible music without compromising an ounce of originality or ingenuity. "Gob Bots" harnesses a conventionally danceable house beat to an intricate lattice of Mu-Ziqal electronic bleeps, chimes and synth spangles. "The Wheel" and "Ethereal Murmurings" are exquisite, jewel-like ambient marvels. On "Twangle Frent" and "Make It Funky," Paradinas dabbles in the bright, twitchy electro that he would soon popularize as Jake Slazenger. "Nettle + Pralines" explores electro-samba rhythms, and "Metal Thing #3" and "Dance 2" predict the manic programming of Paradinas' later forays into drum n' bass. BLUFF LIMBO, even more so than the first album, is the root from which all of Paradinas' pseudonymous branches sprout.
