Album Notes Everything about Howlin' Wolf was larger than life; his voice, his songs, his image, even his physical girth. As an avatar of vintage Chicago blues, Wolf was second only to his constant rival, Muddy Waters. BLUES BIOGRAPHY offers 18 examples of the Wolf at his best, including some of his signature tunes ("Wang Dang Doodle," "Killing Floor," "Built for Comfort"). The angular, incisive guitar lines (often played by Hubert Sumlin), the forceful tunes (usually written by Willie Dixon), and, most of all, the gigantic sandpaper wail (100% Wolf) on these tracks combine to place them among the finest blues recordings of their era.
