Synopsis
Sara Paretsky, best known for her V.I. Warshawski crime novels, takes a dark literary turn in BLEEDING KANSAS, the story of two modern-day Kansas farm families whose history traces back to the bloody battles between pro-slavery advocates and abolitionists in the 1850s. With the arrival of a pagan lesbian to the community, the appearance of a miraculous talking calf, and the death of a local son in the Iraq War, generation-old conflicts concerning religion and morality arise, old secrets come to light, and the rural region threatens to explode with violence anew.
