The participation of 'N Sync, R. Kelly, and Mariah Carey on Blaque's debut album should clue even the casual observer in to two facts; this is R&B on the pure pop tip, and we're talking high stakes stuff. Accordingly, the production that frames the voices of this young female vocal trio is full of big-budget hooks that'll jump off the disc and chase you around your living room.
There's a touch of hip-hop in both the rhythms and the vocals, but these girls are hardly "street." The cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" and the pristine overall approach to both the arrangements and the performances here bespeak a commitment to professionalism and listenability that aims straight for the ears of the American heartland. Ultimately, BLAQUE is as cuddly and approachable as a sock puppet.
