This is one of the hidden classics in Bing Crosby's discography, and it puts to shame anyone who ever called Crosby a square. BING CROSBY & SOME JAZZ FRIENDS collects work the great vocalist did in the 1930s with such legendary musicians as Louis Jordan, Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, and Louis Armstrong. Of course, Crosby was developing his own legend at the time, and his beautifully hued baritone and lightly swinging performances show why. Moreover, these tracks contain lots of playful dialogue, with Crosby giving as good as he gets, and creating a fully formed and very likeable portrait of the artist as a young man.

Industry Reviews
4.5 Stars - Very Good Plus - ..There's superb melodic invention, quick humor, crooned lines, and many felicities, such as the long, curved notes with concluding grace notes that make I Ain't Got Nobody a near masterpiece..
Down Beat (08/01/1992)
