Details

Movie Description Stunningly prolific, politically minded British pop star Billy Bragg joins up with American indie country band Wilco to make folk legend Woody Guthrie's unfinished albums MERMAID AVENUE VOL. 1 & 2. After being contacted by Guthrie's daughter Nora, Bragg embarks on a journey that begins at Woody's Okema, Oklahoma, birthplace. While traveling to important settings in Woody's musical career--Texas and New York--and finally meeting up with Wilco in Chicago, Bragg simultaneously works on bringing Woody's words to life. MAN IN THE SAND tracks this two-year project on film, following these dedicated musicians through the albums' production.
Film Notes Mermaid Avenue is a street in Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York.
