Using a play on words to reference LL Cool J's BIGGER & DEFFER, Chris Rock reteams with production genius Prince Paul for his third comedy album. Like its predecessor, BIGGER combines live excerpts from Rock's stand-up, hilarious song parodies, and clever sketch comedy not unlike what shows up on his HBO series. Although some of the live bits also appear in Rock's one-hour stand-up video special of the same name, there's no denying his skill at holding up a streetwise mirror to such topics ranging from Columbine ("Crazy White Kids") to the battle of the sexes ("Two Women").
When Rock isn't riffing to a crowd, he's making studio magic with Prince Paul and a bunch of running buddies including Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ice Cube, Gerald Levert, and Biz Markie. Among the highlights are brilliant parodies of "Brown Sugar" ("Snow Flake") and Baz Luhrman's "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" ("No Sex"). Being as controversial as his comedic forefather Richard Pryor, Rock's language is on the salty side. But once you hear the Dickie Goodman "Mr. Jaws"-influenced "Monica Interview," in which rap samples are used in response to Rock's interviewer persona, the profanity becomes secondary.
