Synopsis The pioneering progressive rock band Yes formed in London in 1968. In this entertaining and detailed memoir, their first guitarist, Peter Banks, recalls his formative years on London's '60s music scene and the band's hardscrabble early days. He describes Yes's early attempts to build a repertoire, the emergence of Jon Anderson as the band's de facto leader, and the often friction-filled atmosphere between its members. While Banks's biography makes no claim to be a definitive history of this perennial prog favorite (he performed with them for only two years, and was replaced by Steve Howe in 1970), it contains many enlightening insights into Yes's early days, as well as the creation of their first two albums and a track-by-track breakdown of the circumstances behind the recording of each song.
