Album Notes These Mills Brothers' recordings might be new and unfamiliar sounds to younger ears; there are few acts in the music business that sound remotely like them. The quartet of singing siblings delivers these melodies in a crisp, colorful, and dynamic way. A rhythmic confidence and slick warmth pervade songs like "Lazy River" and "Across the Alley from the Alamo." The sheer goofiness of "Alamo" is almost lost in the bouncy tempo, but the Mills's spirited vocals swing and are filled with suitable good humor. "You Always Hurt the One You Love" and "Someday" make it plain that the group, whose core here comprises the three brothers and their father, have the heart and soul to make these songs sentimental and blue. "Till Then," from 1944, predates the acapella and doo-wop styles that would gain popularity 10 years later.
