Synopsis Mary and Clare do everything together at preschool, but Mary's birthday celebration puts a strain on the girls' friendship., The ups and downs of friendship are showcased by two preschoolers, Clare and Mary. Always affectionate with each another, the two do everything together. However, when everyone celebrates Mary’s birthday with divine little pink cupcakes and lots of attention, Clare becomes very jealous. The two must make it through this tough time with all the sweetness and honesty that small children possess. Margaret Chodos-Irvine’s gorgeous, simple, yet pattern-filled artwork, based on print-making, is the star of this picture book.
