Blasting off with the giddy hyperactivity of the manic, breathless "This Is Not My Flag," The Dentists' BEHIND THE DOOR I KEEP THE UNIVERSE finds the quartet from Medway, Kent, England operating at the peak of the band's immense capacity. On their first major-label release after nearly a full decade of indie releases that included classic singles like "Strawberries Are Growing in My Garden" and "Outside Your Inside," The Dentists make no concessions to mainstream taste. Instead, they favor a blend of '60s-style psychedelic pop spiked with jangly postpunk guitars that's flavored with Mick Murphy's distinctive rural England accent. Highlights here include the excellent single "Space Man" and the surprisingly emotional "Sorry Is Not Enough." This album also appeared as a set of seven-inch EPs.
