Album Notes Personnel includes: Meredith Brooks (vocals, acoustic, electric & slide guitar); David Darling (keyboards, bass, programming, background vocals); Jennifer Love Hewitt (background vocals). Sometimes a monster hit single can be an albatross around an artist's neck. After "Bitch" propelled Meredith Brooks to the top of the charts, doubters lined up to cast aspersions on her ability to duplicate the feat. She probably never will, and good for her. Instead, on BAD BAD ONE (as well as its predecessor), Brooks continues to go for the pop jugular by mixing cutting-edge production (funky drum loops, angular samples) with the post-Alanis singer-songwriter approach (even though Brooks has been around the block a few times more than Morissette). Amiable folk-rock song construction mixes with new-troubadour introspection, empowerment-via-rock guitar riffs, and triple-A-friendly funkiness for a mix that fans of Sheryl Crow should find to their liking (not to mention fans of Ms. Brooks's previous work).
