BACKBEAT is a film based on the life of Stu Sutcliffe, The Beatles' original bassist. The songs on the soundtrack--12 early-rock favorites the Beatles regularly featured during their Hamburg period--are performed by an alternative rock super-group: drummer Dave Grohl of Nirvana, bassist Mike Mills of R.E.M., guitarists Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and Don Fleming of Gumball, as well as vocalists Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs and Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum.
