Synopsis Dr. Robert C. Atkins's "high-fat, low-carb" approach to dieting has been wildly popular for years, and part of his legacy is that his books helped people become responsible for their own health by being more aware of what they were eating. ATKINS DIABETES REVOLUTION draws on an idea that Dr. Atkins was working on near his death concerning obesity's "twin" disease, diabetes. Atkins saw how his "controlled carb" approach, as it is now called, could help diabetics control their disease. According to the two co-authors of ATKINS DIABETES REVOLUTION, Type-2 diabetes is preventable and controllable through good eating practices and exercise. They introduce the Atkins Blood Sugar Control Program (ABSCP), which identifies the early warning signals in those who are at risk. ATKINS DIABETES REVOLUTION is a comprehensive, thorough approach using the ABSCP, a regimen of lifestyle changes, guidelines on blood sugar, recipes, and the Atkins Food Pyramid. It also includes information on drugs, and a chapter on diabetes in young people. The ever-increasing number of Americans developing Type-2 diabetes concerned Dr. Atkins, and his colleagues at the Atkins Center have honored him with this posthumous extension of his work.

Publisher's Notes
First Line: "It's a frustrating fact of life: We don't have much say over whether we fall victim to life-threatening diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, or to a large extent, some types of heart disease. However, there is one, all-too-common killer disease over which we have a great deal of say. Most people do have a choice when it comes to Type 2 diabetes."
