Album Notes Personnel: Ann Hampton Callaway (vocals); Rodney Jones (guitar); Mads Tolling (violin); Teodross Avery (saxophone); Marvin Stamm (flugelhorn); Wycliffe Gordon (trombone); Ted Rosenthal (piano); Jay Leonhart (upright bass); Victor Lewis (drums); Emedin Rivera (percussion). Veteran jazz/cabaret vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway has always had an eclectic approach to repertoire, and on AT LAST, her second album for the Telarc label, she continues to mix and match musical sources while her deft delivery and honeyed tones make it all sound of a piece. Callaway tackles tunes from the Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac songbooks on one hand, and takes on standards like "What Is This Thing Called Love" and "Over the Rainbow" on the other, but somehow the seams never show.
Industry Reviews The musicians journey from the breezy restlessness of Joni Mitchell's 'Carey' and hazy satisfaction of 'Lazy Afternoon' to the vibrant, fiery, lovelorn plains of Chick Corea's 'Spain'...
4 stars out of 5 -- Callaway has a fabulous instrument, as her dark, rich voice is flexible and supple enough to caress each word of 'Lazy Afternoon,' which draws the listener into a world in which every moment needs to be savored as long as possible.
