Synopsis A deeply spiritual seventeen-year-old takes a radical step to save himself from the fanaticism of his born-again Christian parents., Zimmerman, a deeply spiritual teenager, is seen as too serious by his parents, who try to tempt him into delinquent behavior. When they discover religion while on vacation in Jamaica, his parents decide that Zimmerman must be a boy saint. Unfortunately, this perception of Zimmerman still does not recognize him as an individual. Will their fanaticism mean the end of Zimmerman?

Industry Reviews "As always, Brooks is a brilliant and original writer, delving here into philosophical and theological questions rarely raised in children's literature, and he's masterfully depicted the increasing claustrophobia and the irony of Zim's situation while delicately drawing and redrawing the lines of character interaction." Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books - Deborah Stevenson (06/19/1996)
"Brooks gives much to consider in this slim, thought-provoking novel which will be treasured by YAs who are emotionally mature." Voya - Susan R. Farber (10/19/1996)
"...weaves together several fascinating, often discordant storylines into a uniquely compelling novel about religion, parenting, and childhood....The good kid/bad parent story has been told many times before, but the uniqueness of Brook's novel lies in its ability to focus on subtle details." Five Owls - Timothy Rhodes
