A talented, sought-after dancer from her youth, appearing in various music videos and movies, the winsome Ashanti caught the eye of super-producer and head of Murder, Inc. Irv Gotti. He made her the queen of duets, in chart-topping 2001 pairings with Fat Joe, Ja Rule, and Notorious B.I.G. Predictably, her debut album sold in the six-digit figures its first week, ultimately reaching multi-platinum status. ASHANTI showcased the dulcet-toned singer's wonderfully understated style, with her angelic voice wrapped around sultry, full-bodied, throwbacks to the best of the '70s and '80s R&B.
