Cardinal Newman's famous history of his intellectual development and eventual conversion to Roman Catholicism. Newman wrote this book in response to critics, in particular Charles Kingsley, who vehemently attacked him for his conversion in 1845. The book is a resounding defense of the Roman Catholic church and helped bring about an acceptance of Roman Catholicism in Britain for the first time since the Reformation. A spiritual autobiography of one the major figures of 19th-century Christianity.
