Synopsis Bennett, an English expatriate, lives in France but can't afford the lifestyle he desires. He places an ad in the "International Herald Tribune" volunteering his services--any services. A man named Julian Poe, who has the inside scoop on truffle production, hires him, and Bennett finds himself in Monaco living the life of his dreams. However, he is soon pursued by the Mafia, joined by a beautiful woman named Anna, and surrounded by monks dedicated to Bacchus.

Publisher's Notes
First Line: "Something would turn up, Bennett kept telling himself."
Industry Reviews "With 'Anything Considered', Mr. Mayle has written an entertaining thriller that moves along apace, but his loyal readers need not worry. Much of his raw material is familiar....It is, of course, vintage Mayle: all the twists and turns...revolve around something to eat. As it happens, the plot is not that improbable." New York Times Book Review - Alan Riding (06/09/1996)
"A sinister plot to corner the truffles market provides the backdrop for another delightful trek through the French countryside in this third novel from the ever-popular Mayle." Watson
"Happily, Peter Mayle's 'Anything Considered' meets all the prerequisites for perfect August reading....Make no mistake: 'Anything Considered' is like a perfectly unnecessary pleasure, like smoking a Cuban cigar or enjoying a cool glass of rosé alone on a summer's evening. But for anyone who has visited Southern France, or lost his heart to Grace Kelly in 'To Catch a Thief', or longed to be swept up in a glamorous chapter, this is just what a vacation book should be. It won't change your life but it will send you, after a long day under a beach umbrella, to sleep full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing." Washington Post Book World - Michael Dirda (07/28/1996)
