Movie Description
Director Ben Hecht brings to life the world of loners, two-bit hustlers and has-beens that populate Times Square. Bill O' Brien (Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.) plans to swindle a suicidal thief, but then plots with call girl Nina Barone (Rita Hayworth) to turn his life around. A great cast headlines an unusually black comedy for its time. Academy Award Nominations: Best Original Screenplay.
Synopsis
Four Broadway types come together in various adventures that illustrate life in Times Square in 1940. One is a playwright who saves another character, an embezzler, from suicide. A third is a hustler type who thinks he can pull one over on the embezzler. Completing the group is the girl who gets in on the hustle before it is all worked out.
