Industry Reviews
"Rarely have I been so entertained as I have been by this strange novel, and for the life of me I can't tell why. It breaches all canons that fiction knows, being first of all the account of a murder trial, as stale a subject as most of us ever hit on. It is gummed up by a double anonymity, for if putting the tale in the mouth of Paul Biegler, attorney for the defense and the leading character, is a pleasant thing to do, hiding the true author's identity under a nom de plume is somehow annoying, especially as copyright law and book promotion make any real secrecy impossible."
New York Times Book Review - James M. Cain (01/05/1958)
