Synopsis
A pop-up book which illustrates the first verse of "America the Beautiful," line by line, from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Statue of Liberty, and includes an attached smaller book containing an additional pop-up illustration for each later verse., Robert Sabuda crafts another stunningly intricate and colorful pop-up book, this time capturing the stirring feel of the familiar lyrics of "America the Beautiful" with seven openings. Against the "spacious skies" stands the Golden Gate Bridge, under which boats leave ribbons of silver-foil in their wake. "Purple mountain majesties" features majestic Mount Rushmore; a windmill that readers can rotate rises above the "amber waves of grain;" and the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan loom "from sea to shining sea." A smaller book inside the book illustrates lesser-known verses with miniaturized pop-ups of the Twin Towers, a space shuttle, and an eagle.

Industry Reviews
"Robert Sabuda is something of an artistic and engineering genius. The prolific master of the pop-up book, he has taken precise and literal images of America...and created a series of astonishing images...."
New York Times Book Review - Ted Chapin (11/14/2004)
