Movie Description In 1967, at the age of 50, Dick Proenneke retired and moved to the wilds of Alaska, where on the shore of Twin Lakes--in an area few humans had ever set foot on--he built himself a log cabin. Following a lifelong dream that many can relate to but few actually act on, Proenneke began making a life for himself in the wild, far from civilization but very close to the breathtaking natural beauty, harsh climate, and diverse wildlife of Alaska. He filmed the evolution of his life there over the course of several years, and Bob Swerer has assembled that footage into ALONE IN THE WILDERNESS, a fascinating study of one man coming to terms with nature.
Twenty years after the filming of ALONE IN THE WILDERNESS, Bob Swerer returned to visit Dick Proenneke, who was still living life on his own terms--by himself, in the log cabin he'd built from scratch--in the remote wilds of Alaska. In ALASKA SILENCE AND SOLITUDE, Swerer captures the fiercely independent nature of life on Twin Lakes, as well as the area's absolutely stunning scenery, and amazing wildlife including grizzly bears, bull moose, and caribou.
