Movie Description
"Scarface" Al Capone (1899-1947) remains the most notorious gangster in American history, the focal point of endless speculation and the model for an entire cinema genre. Born in Brooklyn, Capone suddenly relocated to Chicago in 1918 immediately after murdering a man while in the employ of thugs Johnny Torrio and Lucky Luciano. He virtually took over the city with a web of protection rackets, speakeasies, prostitution, and gambling, brutally protecting his turf with a small army of murderous machine gun-wielding henchmen while keeping much of the city's corrupt government and most of the police department on his payroll. Most famously, he tried to kill rival hoodlum Bugs Moran during the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" in 1929; Capone's stooges machine-gunned seven men lined up against a wall in a parking garage. Not only was Moran not among them, but the incident finally turned public opinion against Capone, and he was imprisoned for tax evasion in 1931. He died a broken man in 1947 at the age of 48. This biography features a mix of actual film of Capone with recreations filmed on locations from Brooklyn to Alcatraz, along with compelling interviews with Capone's nephew and various experts.
