Album Notes
Sasha: Greg Knowles (dulcimer, Cymbalom); Charlie May (Bosendorfer, Fender Rhodes, Hammond B-3 organ); Dave Arch (celeste, harpsichord); Steve Lewinson (bass); Luis Jardin (percussion); Andy Page (programming).
Recorded at The Computer Hell Cabin, Amsterdam, Holland.
Japanese import features a bonus disc with extra tracks: "Rabbitweed," "Baja," "Scorchio," "Belfunk," and "Xpander."
For what is ostensibly a dance record (and quite a hot seller at that), Sasha's AIRDRAWNDAGGER is impressively textured, thoughtful, and varied. There's no dangerously high BPM count here; unlike some of his work with partner John Digweed, Sasha's solo outings tend more toward the chillout room than the dancefloor. This is exemplified by such cuts as "Mr. Tiddles," which bears echoes of the Steve Reich/Philip Glass school of minimal repetition, and "Magnetic North," which wouldn't seem out of place on a mid-period Tangerine Dream album. AIRDRAWNDAGGER does get peppier and more percussive, as on the percolating "Cloud Cuckoo," but even there, Sasha shows his musical smarts by cleverly interpolating a subtle sample from an early-'80s track by King Crimson. That Sasha's got a million surprises up his sleeve.

Industry Reviews
3 stars out of 5 - ...An assured statement of his signature trance sound...
