Album Notes ACOUSTIC GARDEN comes packaged in a limited edition plantable CD cover made from recycled cotton infused with wildflower seeds. Personnel: Eric Tingstad (guitar); Nancy Rumbel (oboe, English horn, woodwinds); David Lanz (piano, keyboards); Nick Moore, Jovino Santos Neto, Tom Kellock (keyboards); Garey Shelton (bass); Mark Ivester, Ben Smith (percussion). Partially recorded at Curved Air Studios, Boulder, Colorado. Includes liner notes by Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel. ACOUSTIC GARDEN won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. Formed in 1984, the duo of Tingstad and Rumbel pairs the crisp acoustics of Eric Tingstad's guitar with the distinctive sound of Nancy Rumbel's oboe. Although their 2002 release, ACOUSTIC GARDEN, may be remembered by many for its clever environmental offering (the album cover contains wild flower seeds which will sprout if watered) the album ultimately rises above gimmickry. While drawing liberally from a variety of musical traditions, GARDEN retains a cohesive sound, particularly on such tracks as "Shamrock," and "Les Jardins de Nohant," an homage to Frederic Chopin. "San Antonio" gently evokes the Hispanic influences of Rumbel's Texas hometown, while the suspended keyboard chords of "Windows on the World" are a poignant reminder of the World Trade Center disaster.
