Synopsis Near the end of World War II the Navy cruiser "U.S.S. Indianapolis" was sunk by a Japanese submarine and hundreds of lives were lost. The survivors spent five days adrift in the open sea before they were rescued. A court martial found the captain culpable, yet many of his crew thought he was not to blame and worked for years to clear his name. Originally published in 1958, ABANDON SHIP tells of the ordeal of these sailors and includes updated information by Peter Maas that sheds new light on the case and examines the Navy's role in causing and covering up these events.
