Synopsis Everyone in Partout Parish knows that Marcus Renard is guilty of murdering real-estate agent Pam Bichon, but he was acquitted in court. Annie Broussard, a straightlaced sheriff's deputy, intervenes when Renard gets what's coming to him from detective Nick Fourcade. She arrests Nick, which saves Renard from certain death, and as a result, gets the cold shoulder from the department and the townspeople. Soon, she and Nick both find themselves suspended from the department, and they team up to dig out the truth behind Pam Bichon's murder.
