Synopsis
Steve Martin takes George Eliot's novel "Silas Marner" into the 20th century, and sets it in the American South.
Ever since the demise of his marriage, Michael McCann has lived alone, bitter and angry. Then, mysteriously, a little orphaned girl wanders into his home, wins his heart and changes his life. But there's someone who knows the truth about her parentage... someone who might want to take her away.
