Details

Synopsis Tully Mars lights out from Wyoming for a warmer climate after he incurs the wrath of his boss, who raises poodles for a living and has hired a squad of goons to track him down. As he heads south, Tully meets the woman of his dreams, leaves her with reluctance, evades the evil posse, and, after a series of adventures, ends up in the Caribbean. There he's hired by a wealthy woman (aged 103) who wants him to restore a lighthouse. What follows is typical Jimmy Buffett-land, where the order of the day is good sex, good fishing, good pot, and plenty of hanging out with the colorful locals.

Industry Reviews "As usual, a pleasant...buzz all the way through." Kirkus (10/15/2004)
"[A] groovily laid-back, ramblingly anecdotal, sun-soaked bit of Caribbean escapism....This book is as cheery and tropical as Buffet's music." Publishers Weekly (10/18/2004)
"Perhaps it is because Buffet has long been a writer of lyrics that his prose style now seems to flow in a fresh, fanciful, finely imagined fashion....Buffett knows better than most that life is all about how we mix our metaphors. And yet the nonfictional aspects of the book appear to be as grounded an well constructed as, for want of a better image, a lighthouse at sea. Buffett has clearly researched his subject. but I suspect the true research for this novel has already been done on land and air and sea in all the years the author has spent as a highly active participant-observer of life." New York Times Book Review - Kinky Friedman (11/28/2004)
"This Caribbean-hopping novel overflows with a credible accumulation of nautical detail and palpable tropic sensuality." Entertainment Weekly - Christophe Willmann (12/17/2004)
