Movie Description Peter Coyote and Greta Scacchi star as lovers in Diane Kurys's film-set romance A MAN IN LOVE. Steven (Coyote), a Hollywood star ignoring the contrary advice of his agent, has chosen to do an art film on the life of writer Caesare Pavese. While shooting in Rome, he becomes involved with Jane (Scacchi), his leading lady, after churlishly tossing her father (John Berry) off the set. Although she already has a live-in theater-director boyfriend, Bruno (Vincent Lindon), she agrees to join Steven at his villa, and they begin an intensely carnal relationship. Before long, however, reality intrudes in the form of those with previous claims upon the couple.
The script of A MAN IN LOVE, cowritten by Kurys and playwright Israel Horovitz, unfolds with a pleasurably dizzying flair, and the spectacular photography of the European locations provides the perfect setting for impressively erotic love scenes. Jamie Lee Curtis and Peter Riegert turn in solid performances in supporting roles, while Coyote and Scacchi sizzle.
Synopsis A film director carries on a passionate affair with an ingenue actress behind the back of his much put-upon wife in this sophisticated drama.
Film Notes Release date: July 31, 1987.
The film is based on the director's relationship with Donald Sutherland on the set of Fellini's CASANOVA.
Industry Reviews "...Beautifully shot....Lushly scored....There is passion in Kurys' film, and courage and intelligence....Made with humanity and love..." Los Angeles Times - Michael Wilmington (08/14/1987)
