Album Notes
Personnel: Bob Mould (vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion); David Barbe (bass); Malcolm Travis (drums, percussion).
Engineers: Bob Mould, Lou Giordano, Timothy Powell.
Principally recorded live at Cabaret Metro, Chicago, Illinois on July 22, 1992.
Sugar's second American CD single, "A Good Idea," which is identical to the version that appears on the band's debut COPPER BLUE, is here coupled with four live tracks recorded at a concert recorded for a local Chicago radio station. Collectors should note that this is the most widely bootlegged of all Sugar shows.
On "Helpless," while Bob Mould's vocals are a little restrained, the music barrels ahead at a breakneck pace, and the song's pop pretensions are largely glossed over in favor of a wall of guitars. Bass player David Barbe's "Where Diamonds are Halos" is a return to the band's poppier side, though it still integrates Mould's dense guitar playing. "Slick," the story of a car crash told in the first person, is slightly slower than the album version and Mould's voice bites and cracks on nearly every syllable. The last track is a cover of a lesser known Who song, "Armenia City in the Sky," which provides an excellent opportunity for Malcolm Travis' expressive drumming.
