Synopsis Fourteen years ago, Doctor Stuart Jordan's wife Annabel allowed the couple's son to wander off into the woods, where the child died. Since then, Stuart has found meaning in his life by serving as a dedicated doctor in a town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Annabel's bipolar disorder, coupled with her guilt over the death of her son, has led her into a life on the streets. In her absence, Stuart is having an affair with Bobbie Tisdale, an attractive woman married to a dangerous man. When Stuart is called upon to be the medical examiner in a murder case, his life becomes even more turbulent. He finds himself responsible for the care of the accused murderer's infant child. Then Annabel reappears, forcing Stuart to choose between his wife and his mistress.
