Movie Description Nora (Claire Bloom,) who once forged a loan signature to finance her authoritarian husband's (Anthony Hopkins) career, now finds herself being blackmailed and lives in fear of the truth about her crime being exposed. Confident her husband will stand by her no matter what the outcome, she is unprepared for his reaction, which is quite different from what she expected. Based on a play by Henrik Ibsen.
Synopsis A woman recreates her identity in this adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's 1879 play of family and ferocity.
Nora Helmar has all she wants... or so she thinks. Everything in her bourgeois home -- the furniture, the clothing, the trimmings -- looks perfect. But slowly she realizes that her pampered life is spiritually empty. Her marriage to a bank manager, Torvald, is the very model of wedded order, but contains no affection.
Then Torvald becomes ill. Nora secures a bank loan from Krogstad, a dubious moneylender and an ex-lawyer at Torvald's bank, to pay her husband's medical bills. But once Torvald has recuperated, he discovers that not only did his wife take out the loan, but that she even forged her father's signature to do so.
Torvald fires Krogstad and unwittingly sets in motion a blackmail scheme that could compromise his marriage.
