Album Notes
This is the second volume of a chronological series of Charles Brown works from the beginning of his career. All of these tracks were released under the name of Johnny Moore's Three Blazers. While Brown was the star of the show, singing the songs and penning many of the hits (including "Driftin' Blues," the single that put the Three Blazers on the map), the group had been in existence before he joined, hence it bore the name of the older, more experienced Moore. Originally recorded and released as 78s for the Los Angeles Modern Music label, these songs include some jazz instrumentals mixed in with the vocal selections--"Nutmeg" features fine solos by both Brown and Moore, with the firm and unrelenting backing of bassist Eddie Williams. "Warsaw Concerto (Parts 1 and 2)" finds them heading into the cinematic realm of near-classical compositions.
